A food manufacturer had approached several large training organisations and had simply been offered their standard products.
After an initial meeting where we explored the needs of the organisation we proposed a series of training events ranging from one day overviews of their newly developed project management methodology to three day events which included a case study developed to promote delegates' understanding of project management and in particular sound planning and control of projects.
The courses were held at multiple sites and over 100 days of course delivery were carried out to satisfy the organisation's project management competency requirements.
A Japanese electronic consumer goods company had found itself "all at sea" with its handling of projects. Having sent two of its managers to a standard project management course that we had run, I was called to discuss their requirements with their senior management and we agreed to implement a tailored approach based upon the structure of PRINCE2.
The interesting thing about their requirements was that all staff from MD downwards were to attend a minimum of a half day overview to ensure everyone understood the terminology and approach that the organisation was taking to implement projects. At the other end of the spectrum their Project Managers and Team Managers undertook a combined methodology, general planning and software tool course to ensure the theory was backed up with practical capability. Within a six month period this organisation was in control of its projects!
A London based FTSE 100 organisation was unhappy with the support they were getting from a major consultancy in the field of risk management.
To assist their need to comply with Turnbull guidance in managing corporate risk Derek devised a combined training session in risk management theory with a workshop to identify and assess current risks with their organisation's operations. The combined approach not only saved the organisation a substantial amount of money, but participants were far better motivated as they full appreciated the process and how they were protecting the future health of the organisation
